KING is a provocative one-woman image theatre show about the tragic melodrama of a Freddie Mercury impersonator. It plays with themes of drag, identity and the alter-ego, and uses a deconstructed soundscape of Queen songs, layering live and recorded sound.
Sound design by Matt Collings and lighting by Alberto Santos. Above image by Rosemary Cunningham.
KING was made during a 3 week international artistic residency with Conflux (now SURGE) in collaboration with Matt Collings (sound designer).
Receiving funding and mentoring from Al Seed (Conflux), director Hilary Westlake and Elinor Randle (Tmesis Theatre), the piece was performed as part of Physical Fest, Liverpool and for Surge Festival and the Commonwealth Cultural Programme 2014 at The Arches, Glasgow.
